Hi Nancy, i did like scott said and my dog at first did little hops back then sat, and i rewarded him with his ball ( about 10 times ), the second time i moved just a little bit faster into him and he took 3 or 4 steps back, same reward, today at work he went backwards about 20 feet, i guess at some point, i'll start putting the command with the action and pull him over to my side with the lure of the ball or treats, i'm going to do it a couple of times a day till he gets it, no rush <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />,

Scott, is the move between the legs on the foward heel for better position for the dog to protect the handler? Also, what part didn't that dog have down? If i could get my dog to do the exercise like that, i'd feel like a pro trainer, hahaha,
AL
The move between the legs is for down the road when (in upper levels) the decoy may pass on right or left side. If the dog is in the traditional heel position, there's more chance of the decoy squeezing between the dog and handler. Then he can move the dog further from the handler.
The problems with the video are that the dog didn't spin out of the intial position as soon as the decoy said "good by" to heel backwards and at the end the dog didn't really guard the decoy. He started to recall to the handler and the handler downed the dog before he came back. that's why the dog was turned away from the decoy after the "out".
the dog wasn't trial ready in that video but I suspect that he is now.
After watching the video again, I think the dog wanted to recall to the handler because the decoy was using a clatter stick. When the decoy has a stick in his hand the dog always recalls to the handler when the exercise is over. In this case, the decoy is not a French Ring decoy and it didn't help the dog much to have the decoy actually use the stick during the exercise (IMO).
This one is in preparation for a presentation to persons who don't have a clue as to what Ringdogs are. It had to be made more "entertaining" It was done by Martine Loots and her ringdog Fils (No doggydance dog) son of A'tim http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=6225126839806036176&q=loots
