Yesterday I posted about what happened in training under the protection thread (Lost cause or needs more time?). I've gotten a couple PMs from people claiming the same behavior from dogs of the same lines-not crazy ball or prey drive, but defensive and somewhat "serious" all around. So, I'm wondering if anyone has any other experiences with this or knows if there's anyone who's got significant experience protection training dogs who just don't see bitework as a game. A few people suggested that trying to backtrack and train the dog in prey might not work because he's already had some defensive bitework, albeit negative. He did bite during the 3rd session, and will bite, but needs to be really P.O'd. He's not that easy to provoke, but stays mad once he gets there. He doesn't seem to "bounce back" or think it's a game in any way. But, he still would rather not do it. (Major understatement, if you read my original post.)Any and all help and input is greatly appreciated.
