Lewis, Has his activity level increased/decreased or stayed the same? A slight showing of the ribs is not a problem. With the Vet's positive report I wouldn't worry. Is he losing body mass at the hindquarters or neck.
I would be more concerned if he was gaining weight.

Sorry Lewis we must have been posting at the same time. I really don't know how to add fresh meat without giving the poops to your dog, when I switched to the raw diet at 4 months old, he really never got the poops, his stool became really nice "funny as that sounds" as compaired to kibble stool, on kibble he has HUGE craps and they stunk bad! Raw they are little pellets about a third volume with no stink at all.
I will venture out and say you could try a 50 50 diet, like fresh chicken with bone such as a carcass or two in the morning and kibble at night and see how that goes. I really think the bone is the key to nice stool. Your just going to have to try it.... go chicken at first, high in protien and low in fat then add in red meat slowly on rotating days.

Lewis, You might want to decrease the Protien level in the kibble.
Lonny, I don't think adding any protien to the diet will put weight on his dog. Proberly just the opposite. Lower Protien and higher carbs may help. Then I may be out in left field without a ballgame to play in.

Don't worry about his weight at this stage, it will all even out.
My dog decided to go through the uglies right in time for the seminar, and now he looks normal again.
Can't help with the kibble thing, but if you want to add raw meat to your dogs diet I would start with getting some and starting with cooked, then to semi cooked, and then raw. I went pretty much cold turkey(I think I cooked some marrow bones twice) then all raw and neither of my dogs got the runs. Matter of fact, the only time either has has the runs was on the 5th of july cuz i fed them some cooked crap the day before.

Butch,
I was not suggesting chicken as protien to add weight, rather for the ease of digestion and intergration into the system, in the hopes that the squirts would be kept at bay. Chicken is high in protien and carcass are high in bone, a perfect ballance IMHO good muscle builder and bone for hard stool. After all we want muscle weight not fat weight. Carbs turn into pure sugar in the system, and when over fed will deposit itself in the form of FAT converted from sugar. Protien feeds and builds muscle, this is the reason so many human diets fail.... if you want to lose weight cut carbs if you want to gain muscle weight add protien and carbs and work out.
Try eating no more then 25 grams of carbs a day for three weeks with no working out and tell me how much weight you loose. I bet you will be suprised.

I strongly recommend reading the book behind it before trying it butch. There are a lot of foods that you might not think are bad that are and vice versa. I did lose 40 lbs on that particular diet though... I have to get my act together and lose another...

It was a very enlightning read, I weight about 135 wet, but I bought it anyway for the nutrition value and I was very suprised at it. If the whole world read that book and used it we would all go back to the way of the old world, fit hunter gathers.
