Apparently they are sent to him whole or ready cut into legs, etc and that's what you can buy. He's not prepared to cut them up himself, sell the legs etc to the public and keep the backs for me (some butcher ehh??).
I'm not giving up though and will continue my search for the wonderful chicken back!!
Is there any alternative to backs, necks etc or are the other parts to rich/not got the right ratio?

Oh, sure. Look at the sample meals on the site I PM'd you. A whole chicken is also just fine, wings are fine, and you were planning to grind anyway, right?
I was just saying that backs and necks are great for a beginner because they're easily chewed up, good ratio, etc. But the Boxer site gives you many choices.
So I'm taking it that whole chickens are just pricier than backs/ necks etc and people want to keep the price down.
I loved the site that gave the 2 dobermanns their dinner very simple and easy to follow (sorry would take me ages to look it up again for other members) not as organised as you Connie But I will take all the web sites you've given me and put them in a folder to refer to.
For now I'll get him on the good stuff and brush his teeth twice a day (well the ones that aren't dropping out as we speak-puppy teeth) and who knows one day he might just get a good 'ole bone to chew on!(oh and eat..)
Can you think of anything else he could chew on that I might be more comfortable with? He has the BIG knotted rawhide chews at the moment but I still watch him like a hawk and they're not that good for teeth/cleaning are they?
I think you'll find that when you switch over to all raw, you won't want to include anything rawhide - again, it upsets some sensitive stomachs that are now not used to "foreign" food. When you are ready, you can buy raw, uncooked knuckle bones and marrow bones, but remember to scoop out as much of the marrow as you can because of the richness. Also, they are not good for more than about 1 day - they dry out and then become too hard, which can result in broken teeth. BUT, when you first give them, your pooch will love you to death Do you have Nyla Bones where you are? They are a good alternative - weeks of chewing, but usually no broken off pieces.
Yeah, I think I could handle a large knuckle bone (not personally) and for some reason he won't touch the Nylabones in any flavour or the Kongs and I've put allsorts of things in them! A quick lick and that's it
Lisa,
My pup had a few scares with the rawhide chews, he was so intent on chewing he got small pieces caught in his mouth. I would never use them again, especially with a pup. Pressed rawhide is much safer, but of course he loves real bones the best.
Yeah they're banned now as I've finally found a butcher that will supply me with anything I like and to make it even better he's right on my doorstep and will supply me with as little or as much as I want (ground or not) at no extra cost and to top that my cousin works there so I may get an even better deal. It's a large butchers in my local shopping centre that I rarely go in so never thought of it and now I have become the best of friends with my long lost cousin
Thankyou all for your help!
