I am new to this web board but there seems to be some very good info here and hope you can help.
I have an 8 month old GSD who we have started feeding Wolf Cub by Solid Gold back in October when we heard of it. She was doing very well on it until about 3 weeks ago. She has started to really chew at her feet! I know this is normally a sign of an allergic reaction and not sure what to do next. This food is supposed to be one of the better ones to actually prevent and treat food allergies, as I understand it.
Sometimes those are the symptoms of allergies but perhaps you can try to narrow down this.
Was this a switch recently or has she always been on Solid Gold Wolfcub? Also are you supplementing her diet with treats or anything else (vitamins, etc)?
I ask that since sometimes these additions may throw a balanced diet off.
Are you noticed any other symptoms or any changes in her coat or eating habit?
To make a long story short, give as much more info on this so we can try to help you out. Although I would still get a "good" licensed vet opinion. Note the keyword is "good"

I must've been typing as you were posting; didn't mean to duplicate! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" />
Thanks for the advice. I did call my vet and asked her about this new change. She suggested that it is most likely an environmental allergen rather than the food. I live in an active area for that so it is one likely explanation.
To answer some of the previous questions asked, yes we certainly do supplement her diet. My husband is big on giving her raw items as well. Examples include eggs, chicken broth, raw beef bones with a good bit of fat and meat still on them, experimenting with veggies to see what she likes, etc. I can't pinpoint anything in the last 3 weeks or so that is anything different, however.
Thanks for the info on flax vs. fish oil. I realized after my first posting that my husband and I both have failed to use the Omega 3 oil supplement on her food in the mornings that we had been using frequently. Suppose maybe that could be a large part of it. I am going to be diligent in using it every morning for the next few days to see if that helps.
