I have been a member of this board for about 2 years and yet I still cannot get one thing straight.
Can someone (a moderator will be ideal) clarify for me what the rules on when it comes to "discussing" a breeder or trainer who has acted in a manner that one could or should call into question???
Other than the threads Ed starts, so far, most of the members of this board make partial mention of unscrupulous people and then don't give the name or the full picture. All I ever see is "PM me with the name". So far, anyone brought up in a thread like this has not been near where I live and/or doesn't affect me. But you never know - that day may come.
So, for the people that start the thread, are we supposed to mention the name and/or kennel and/or website ever??? For the people that post within the thread, are we supposed to ask for the name and/or kennel and/or website ever??? Or must it be done in a PM always???
I saw this on another thread running now:
"Every now and then I hear of people who are unhappy with the person they buy a dog from, occasionally I run into people who are down right criminals. This section of the board is where I will post warnings about such people. If you have someone who you feel belongs here - send me a private email. I will determine who is and is not listed here."
But these threads I'm questioning pop up all the time and are usually not locked so I am thoroughly confused!
My feeling is that sometimes a conflict comes up between breeder and buyer. Some breeders are terrible, true, but there are also buyers (of anything...not just dogs) who have unreasonable demands or want the breeder held responsible for things beyond their control ("Excuse me, sir. I've alpha rolled my dog and smacked him everytime he peed on the floor...now he's aggressive and I want my money back.") It happens in almost every business where money changes hands.
My guess is that some of these people would attempt to bash an honest breeder on forums just like this to "get even." So until fact has been weeded from fiction, I think it's a good policy to not mention the kennel until it has been checked by Ed.
I agree that it IS annoying when people only post cryptic messages about a kennel with no substance, though.
Look - let me make something clear about what I will allow on my web board.
First I will very very seldom allow people to bash breeders and trainers. So don't post things like this on my web board. For one thing there are legal issues of slander involved and if you slander someone you may find yourself defending yourself in a court of law. Those who take this lightly are fools.
With that said if you had a bad experience with someone or with a breeder you can may a post like this:
Before you do business with Santa's GSD's Kennel please email me first and I will tell you my experiences -" then put your email address.
THAT'S ALL I AM GOING TO ALLOW !!
If you want to know about other peoples experience with a kennel then you can ask the question and take your answers in a PRIVATE MESSAGE.
There are rare occasions where I will allow something that names a kennel to stand. Less now than I used to allow. I can't and wont fight the problems of the dog world. I am getting too old.
If you have a beef with a specific person - start your own web site, but dont bring it to mine.
