Hi folks, about 3weeks ago I began to notice a slight discharge in the corners of my 7mo.old GSD eyes, usually after she wakes up from sleeping. I thought it might have been something from her kibble "corn"or"wheat"I was feeding nutro so I switched to canidae about 2weeks ago and it does'nt seem as bad but it's still there. Also she seems to scratch her self from time to time I use revolution and have'nt seen any fleas has anyone seen this before?
It can take up to 3 months for food allergies to resolve and treats etc. might have to be changed as well. I'll leave the rest up to the others because they have more experience with allergies.

It could be the kibble, it could be the pollen, it could be just about anything... carpet freshener... etc.
Same with the scratching. Even though your pup is on revolution it doesn't guarantee your dog will never be bitten by a flea, or a mosquito, or other bug. They won't take up residence on your dog, but most won't pass up a good meal.... even if it is the last supper.
I have sleepy seeds when I wake up too. If it is extreme (ie; running or green or really gooey) then I would be concerned, but some eye boogers are just gonna happen from time to time.
Where do you live efc, this is pretty common in states where allergies are high. I had a vet tell me that he'd never seen them on a dog hardly until he moved down here. It's pretty common down here in Texas. It's just allergies most likely. It's been bad this year because we've had a wet summer compared to the recent years.
efc,
Could be allergies, but just a thought, I had a problem with Argos eyes as a puppy and sometimes now the vet told me it was clogged tear ducts they finally cleared out, the vet could flush them if needed. The ugly staining around the eyes was awful for awhile but it stopped and all is good. Ask your vet about the tear ducts that could be the problem.
If you live in an area like industrial this could also be a problem factorys steel plants, etc. alot of dust from the plants could be causing the problem?
Just a suggestion
