Lauren,I agree. She's an accident waiting to happen. I do plan on speaking with her given the opportunity. I haven't researched but there must be a trainer in my area that advocates the halti's because I'm seeing more of them.
For those of us that didnt know what a halti's was.
The Halti Harness is a new concept to the world of
dogs where you take control with little effort or
need for skill. Designed by Dr Roger Mugford,
the Halti Harness stops pulling, calms over-boisterous
dogs and simplifies training and behavioural therapy.
It steers from the chest: an effective point of control.
Looks like something for a sled dog ...tell the lady (who hasnt been educated on dog training) to either read leerburg.com or get skis and/or rollerblades..
Any dog with half a brain can back out of a halti. All they have to do is slip it over their ears.
The trainer I use in my dog's class offered one (not a Halti brand, I forget which one) to us to help "make walks easier" and "gain control of the dog". Most of the dogs in the class are 5-7 months old. I watched her put it on a 5 1/2 month old border collie mix and it didn't stay on for 5 seconds. She tried it multiple times, making it tighter each time, and the owner left holding it in his hand. The next week they showed up without the halter on.
