Hi y'all. I was checking out the rule on the TD and saw that they start their track with a flag, but didn't say anything about a scent pad, like what's used in Schutzhund. I'm training my GSD pup in Schutzhund, but I want to start my ACD tracking...if I train him the way I train the GSD, will the lack of scent pad on the TD track mess him up?
I've only ever tracked SchH style, but would like to at least get a TD on my dog one day. I don't think the lack of a scent pad at the beginning of an AKC track will upset a seasoned schutzhund tracker. All the the scent pad is - is two footprints next to one another. Once the dog hears 'such' they'll just move on ahead.

I do a lot of AKC tracking trials as both a track layer and competitor and I've been to three trials where the only dogs to qualify were SchH dogs.
So I wouldn't worry a bit. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" />
'Nother question, if you're willing. I'm aiming at getting Aussie his CT--Champion Tracker (actually I'm aiming for him to get the VCCH, but let's take it one step at a time ^_^). If I'm not mistaken, that means passing the Variable Surface Tracking trial, which includes hard surface tracking. So should I start him on vegatation surface, or hard surface, or does it matter?
