barbara--
you have a few of the same "definition" issues i had when i discovered this forum. i just kept reading old threads until i got them fairly clear in my own mind, mostly by comparing dogs i've had with the discussion i was reading. go to some of the protection dog/PSD forums on here and just read and think.
sometimes it seems like the people on here expect newbies to come with all the knowledge the more experienced trainers/owners have, but there are a lot of repeated questions that could be eliminated with the good old "search" function. not that i've had all that much luck with it, but that's just me--i probably don't do a good job with the search criteria!
at any rate--keep reading!and i apologize ahead of time to everyone who thinks this is off subject... <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/blush.gif" alt="" />
I usually try to stay away from the 'words' so I don't misuse them but I wasn't sure how to word what I wanted in an understandable way <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" /> I've had great luck with the search function here. Before I started reading the forum regularly I would come here to look up different things via the search. Behavior topics are easy to find, but GSD info. is not for some reason. I think because it's the most talked about subject, it's harder to narrow down my searches. Add to that the fact that I'm not totally fluent in the language <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/blush.gif" alt="" /> I tried looking up the differences between east german lines and west german lines once and didn't have much luck finding a comparison. Thanks Ann, I will keep reading <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

I'm clear on the sharp definition, it was the civil drives that I kind of made up I guess <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" /> I like a certain degree of sharpness to a dog. With GSD's maybe I would only like semi to medium sharp? These are things I need to find out before I get one. I don't think I would be happy with a dog that didn't have somewhat of a sharp temp. I've read everything on this site that deals with the term sharp. There's a lot of interesting conversation on that.
Will, that helps thanks. I forgot all about the + and - symbols. What I have found is that the search function has a maximum number of entries it will allow. 600 I think. If there's more you won't get them.
