Not sure if this is the best place for this, obviously, admin feel free to move it to more appropriate forum.
I'm bringing a new pup back from Germany in March and since this is my first time doing this I was wondering if anyone with some experience might give me a few tips. The puppy is under 3 months so I'm told all I need is a certificate of health from a vet. The puppy will be flying in the cabin with me, in a soft sided "sherpa" bag. It is a direct flight from Frankfurt to Miami just shy of 10 hours. Any thoughts. TIA
Hi Luke. I had researched a lot before I found company to transport my pup with. I had little issues but the company turned out just great. I was told NEVER transport it as second luggage, or third. The cargo doesnt treat them well, but there is company I was very pleased with. I can PM you the web side. they get it all done for you, and they will help you with everything, include crate and they fly from Frankfurt.
Good luck.
Thanks but I'm actually going over myself to pick him up and he'll be flying on his own seat in the plane! The breeder I'm buying from refuses to ship and requires an in face meeting prior to purchase. Tough restrictions but I think this dog is worth it.
Wow... that sounds strange to me. Hope you are going to be happy with the puppy.
Well you need vets certificate not more then 3 days old so find a vet that will examine your puppy. Also if the dog is 12 weeks and olred you need rabies shot, an I think it has to be at least 30 days old. That I would talk to the vet about. Also you are going to need approved crate, size I would guess 300. And last but not least Passport. which you get from the vet for the examination. I do not know the cost of this all the company did it for me and charged me 13 dollars for it. The crate was used and they charged me about 40 usd.
Good luck and Happy traveling.
Sounds like a good breeder to me!
The breeder we got our puppy from won't ship either. We had to go pick up our puppy in person, which is one of the things I like about them.
My daughter flew to Canada to pick up our new boy. He came home at 7 weeks and flew in the cabin with her. The flight was around 10 hours. Kaleb was an angel on the plane. He had no accidents and slept the majority of the trip. When my daughter arrived back in Alaska with Kaleb, the first thing I did was get him out of his crate to see the puppy I had been waiting almost 2 years for He got out of his sherpa bag and walked around the airport like he owned the place. While we were waiting for her luggage Kaleb was playing with a group of kids and attacking people's luggage as it rolled past him. If I didn't know better I would never have guessed he had just been on a plane for the past 10 hours
Great story, thanks. I'm a little anxious about the ten hour flight, glad to hear yours came through with flying colors! Was he sedated? Did she have to go through customs flying from Canada? I'm flying into Miami where customs can take 2 hours! I hope it's not bad coming from Germany.
She had to go thru customs in Canada, I don't think it took very long. I think you can get him out while waiting to go thru customs.
The puppy wasn't sedated during the flight. I have been told that it is not a good idea to give them anything before flying. I talked to several people about flying with a puppy before my daughter went and everyone I talked to said their puppies slept the majority of the flight. I was glad that ours did the same thing
