I am wondering, once a dog (being trained for grip and drive) has moved to items beyond the ball, does the ball become obselete as a drive building prey item in grip training? What I'm getting at is, once the dog will take a tug, pillow, etc. for grip work training, can the ball become the dog's main reward? For example, with all other training not considered, she will grip GREAT on a tug, so after I build drive and work grip for a bit with the tug is there a need to go back and forth to the the ball at other grip work times? (Use the tug one session the ball the next session.) Or can the ball become my reward for OB while on a walk? I ask for her to do something, i.e. lay down, recall, "leave it", etc. and then reward with the ball; without hurting my grip work?
