My six month old male doberman has just been diagnosed with Wobblers. It is in the C3-C5 range, with two vertebra seemingly affected. We have an appointment with the orthopedic surgeon on Thursday, but from what we have researched, surgery isn't always the best option. Does anyone have any information on alternative therapies or strategies to stabilize the condition,as he is still growing. He is not overweight, and the vet mentioned that he is at the top of the growth chart for his age. He is 71 pounds and 27 inches at the withers. We exercise him moderately about an hour to an hour and a half a day. We are feeding him twice a day, adult dog food, Wellness brand, two cups per meal. With approximately 15 small dog biscuits a day. Flaxseed, Omega-6, Omega-3 oils, and two tablespoons of yogurt in the morning with his meal. Does anyone have experience with wrapping the dogs neck, acupuncture, or day to day living strategies. I have seen that reducing his protein intake may help. How can I go about doing this? Any help will be greatly appreciated.
Just an update....we travelled to Marion IN (an eight hour drive) to have gold beads implanted into our Doberman. So far he is doing well. We'll keep everyone updated on his condition.
Thanks again for all of your suggestions and help.
Just wanted to let everyone know that 4 months or so out of the procedure, our Teddy is doing wonderfully. Other than a slight wobble and a semi-stiff right leg when he is walking with his head down, we see none of the earlier signs we came across. He is running, jumping, not slipping on hardwood floors, can get up and down with ease. Thanks again for all of your support, we appreciate it!
