Hello everyone,
I am looking forward to purchasing a puppy from Jill Frost over at Timberhaus K-9 and was wondering if I could get any expert advice on what to expect temperament wise from the pairing of Urs von der Gänsebrücke and Vicky vom Marongstein.
I have spoken to Jill already and I think she is a wonderful person, not to mention the fact that I think her dogs are gorgeous.
I am far from an expert as far as bloodlines go and what if any traits get passed down from generation to generation.
What I am looking for is a companion dog for the most part, I do a lot of hiking, mountain biking and camping and if I do anything at all with the dog it would be some SAR training.
Basically what I am asking for is an informed opinion on what type of dog will result from this breeding.
I would consider more than a companion with this dog. If he turns out to be anything like my dog( who has some of your dogs same ped.) He will be an awsome working dog. My dogs grandfather is Gento vom Haus Larwim, he also has Harro and some others in his pedigree. My dog is a very intense dog, very clear headed, stable, with rock solid nerves. Your dog should make a good companion though as Nero(my dog) is a good dog off the field, he is calm and confident. He is totally different on the field though, you wouldn't imagine him being as calm as he is off the field.
Just bred my bitch to Urs. Hopeing to get some good working dogs (explosive/narcotic detection). The bitch has produced this in past. Spent several days with Jill/Urs. Jill is super nice. Urs was/is awesome. Not a busy/non stop dog. Calm in the kennel, no pacing etc. Can turn on when needed/asked. Met Jill's other dogs too. Very nice. I think the above assessment is pretty correct.
Thanks for the input Brandon and Shelley. Thats great to hear.
This will be my first German Shepherd, though not my first dog.
I have been around and owned Malamute's and Huskies all my life but have always been interested in German Shepherds.
Vicky is due on the 24'th of this month so we shall see what happens, I have already ordered Ed's puppy DVD "8 weeks to 8 months", hopefully that along with this amazing forum will give me the insight I need to do right by this great breed.
