My 4 year old german shepherd has recently started barking randomly, mostly at night but sometimes in the day, at nothing at all. he will sit or jump up in front of the door and just bark and bark. I went out with him one night and followed him to see what he was barking at and he just ran around the house. this is really starting to bother me because i think he is going crazy. Has this happened to anyone else and do anyone know what is up?
By the way the night i went out with him it had just snowed, and i saw no animal tracks. Also i live in the country so its highly unlikly anyone was walking by.
Of course i have taught my dog hush, but when i say it he stops for a few minutes and then continues. When he was 6 months old i taught him how to whine when he needs out and he still whines when he needs to go out. This barking is one of his "scary barks". Also the only time i can get him to play is when we go to the beach.
