I wanted to hear how(if) this group uses the prong for drive building. My club has shown me some ways to do this and it is working. I wanted to see if there was any thing I was leaving out.
The technique is to use light pops while I am working him with a ball. I pop toward the ball and as he responds picking up more speed /energy I reward heavily. So far he is doing nicely.
My dog does great with this type of work. For the right dog it is the only way to train, you do have to have a sound dog with nice drive to pull it off though. The key is to time you corrections well and to never correct so hard that you take the dog fully out of drive (there is an exception to every rule) and to make sure the dog will quickly return to full drive.
