Does anyone know of any top rated dog boarding schools here in the U.S. where I could send my GSD to be fully obedience and protection trained. Could you also suggest about how much this would cost? Thanks.

The professionals here may have better suggestions for protection but I know Triple Crown's obedience program is great.
I wouldn't send my dog away to do this. I'd spend the time and money on learning resources and do it myself. Depending on how long your dog is gone for, it wont be you dog when it gets back. You'll have missed out on all the fun a frustration dog training throws at you.
How old is your dog?
Does it not take a LONG time to protection train a dog?
The cost of the training may be more than the cost of the required training material.

Other than Triple Crown there are no other "boarding schools" that will train your dog for both ob & protection in a legitimate manner.
There are a few private dog trainers that can do so ( and literally 100's of "wannabe's that *say* that they'll train your dog, but actually can't <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/mad.gif" alt="" /> ) but you need to research your choice *carefully*
For an price example, I trained a dog to a SchH I for a client for $2500 and a puppy from his breeding a few years ago. When I added up the hours that I spent training the dog I could see that I had seriously undercharged the client.
So I would think that a professional would charge you at least four to six thousand dollars for what you're asking.
Ironically, the scammers tend to charge you far more....go figure!
