Ok here's my question.. I overheard a guy saying that if you worm a bitch while she's in heat or during her pregnancy that could kill the pups.. I honestly think that nothing should happen. I didn't say anything then cause I really didn't know.. I never talk about things that I don't know 100% what I'm talking about. Can anyone here help. I will be asking my vet but I also would like to hear what you have to say.
There is a protocol for using Fenbendazole (Panacur) on pregnant bitches, starting at Day 42 of pregnancy. The fenbendazole is given daily until 2 weeks after the pups are born. Most useful for a bitch that has previously whelped pups infected with whip or hookworms but will reduce the total parasite load on both whelps and bitch.
It's been tested and used both by breeders and Intervet- so it must not kill all the pups.
