Hi. I was hoping to get some feedback on the suitability of Tritronics collar for my 7 m.o. GSD. I've searched the archives and read the description of the model Ed sells, but I can't figure out if there are any issues with introducing this on a puppy this young.
Annie gets a fair chunk of exercise, though that does lag in the week day somewhat. Biggest problem we have is that we're on a corner lot next to a road with a lot of auto, pedestrian, and dog traffic...all of it gets her barking pretty well. It's a problem during the day, and I don't want to be "that neighbor." Other than when she's alone in the barkyard, this is the only time it's a problem. In her crate, in the house, on a walk, on a tug, she's virtually silent.
Also...does using a collar right now mean she'll NOT develop into a dog who barks at the "right" things?
Hi,
I have a 14 month old GSD who loves to bark. He knows how to bark on command and he also knows quiet. I had the same issue when he was about 8 months and I didn't want to disturb my neighbors. Also he has a loud bark and even inside the house, you can hear him outside. So around 8 months I started using the Dogtra no bark collar.
He definitely knows when the collar is on and when it is off and I have no trouble getting him to bark at training. To me, it is fine if the dogs are collar wise with the bark collar because I only need to keep him from barking when I am not home, when I am home he stops when I tell him quiet.
So anyway, I would not worry too much about using the bark collar, just make sure you start using it when you are home to check her reaction and get it on the right setting.
