Ok, I have a 3 and a half month old female german shepherd who is an inside dog...She is crate trained and does not have accidents inside of her kennel...Well here recently every once in a while she will pee when I go to pet her. This usually happens when i havent been home and she has been at home with my room mate.....Well today she was home with just my roommate and our other dog,,,also a 3.5 month old german shepherd (male) My room mate told me that every time he tried to pet her that she would pee,,said it happened like 10 times....Well I come in go to pet her and she does it again,,,and then again two other times this evening....... ANY SUGGESTIONS.......THANKS
Are you reprimanding her when she pees? It sounds like submissive urination... if you are getting upset with her when she does this it could in fact compound the problem rather than correct it. When you approach to pet her try reducing your size, kneel down to her and pet her under the jowls, neck, sides, etc... avoid going strait for the top of her head or shoulders as this can be precieved as a dominant gesture. Be sure not to coddle her when she is being shy. You will want to build her confidence as much as possible and try to get in as much positive socializing as you can. Take her places.
For what it's worth, I can't help but can commiserate with you. I had a female GSD who did that from the time I brought here home at 8 weeks right up to when I had to put her down. Unfortunately that was only when she was 3 years old <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif" alt="" />.
She'd urinate when ANYONE came up to pet her, no matter whether they lived with us/her or they were visiting. FYI, it was me, my 3 kids (infant, 2 and 5 year old) and my husband at the time. She'd urinate in her crate too if someone she knew came to say hi to her. It was very, very frustrating. I can tell you that when I did get aggravated from it, it did make it worse.
I hope you are able to eliminate the problem. I'm sure these guys on the board know exactly what you can do to at least lessen the severity of it. Good luck. Sorry I couldn't be helpful to you.
