OK, Here goes...Has anyone ever experienced a pup that may wet in their sleep? This is a new one for me. My 5 month old pup has occasionally done this. She is housebroken, never has to wait for long periods to be let out (except bedtime, but has never gone in the crate), and appears normal whenever we go 'outside'. On a few occassions, when sleeping on our living room floor in the evenings, I wake her to go outside and find the floor is damp and her hindquarter wet with pee. I don't think it would be a UTI because her eliminations are normal and she can hold it. It is not a large amount of pee, enough to dampen the floor and her, and she pees a normal amount when we go out after. Mystifying...I am hoping she will grow out of it. Anyone know of similar experiences?

It isn't uncommon in a young female that hasn't been in heat yet. I would recommend that she still have a urine test though. Just to be sure there isn't something going on.

well i had that very same problem and i have to tell you it isn't that good, and you may have a long bumpy road to find out what the problem is exactly, i had too. took many expensive testing. so here is my story, maybe ii will help you out. my pup at 8 weeks (when i got her) starting bedwetting (exactly like yours, same everything) so i took her to the vet (she was housebroken as well) no UTI, things went on over time and got worse, more leaking and more frequently, took her for another UTI, negative so the vet was getting concern, did blood work, came out great, did an x-ray, this intails of them putting her under and injecting dyes into her bladder to see how it runs threw her body, very expensive test, but everything came out fine again. so the vet thought maybe she had a hymin problem where some of her urine stays inside of the vaginal area after peeing and then trickles out after she gets up after she has been laying down for awhile, well anyway, the vet said he could open that area up when i got her spayed. but to my surprise the leaking suddenly went away after the test, so i was thrilled and told the vet and he said the all of the poking and probing of the testing probably open her up some, so we thought that was the end of that. this was in may. but it wasn't, in october i got her spayed,(didn't have him open her vaganal area up cause i thought it was all fixed) in late november the leaking started up again, so back to the vet, no UTI again, and now he believes she is incontenience. now she is on a pill daily to help, well she just started this pill yesterday, so we will see how it goes. beleive or not incontenience can happen to any breed at any age especially in spayed females, it has to do with the hormones. so i truely hope to see the leaking stop completely this time. i have been reading alot about incontenience in dogs and though there really isn't a sure cure for it, they have pills that stop the leaking, and after awhile one can drop the dosage of the pills to maintain the problem. these pills are inexpensive, and i am keeping my fingers crossed that this is the last time i have to return to the vet for this problem. so good luck to you, hope this helps.

Thanks for the responses. It does not happen frequently, maybe once or twice a week. I will wait until she has her 1st heat (she is 22 weeks) and see if it continues and also do a UTI test. Tammy, I am sorry to hear about the difficulties you are having with your dog and hope that the medication will help. I truly do not wish to go that route.

the problem is very sparitic, she can leak three days in a row and than skip 3 days in a row, no ryme or reason, so some days no leaking other days there is, and you never know when it will happen. but in the very early days it happen almost daily, ounce daily. you may not have the same problem, i hope not, but i would diffenantly get a UTI check. just to rule that out. in the meantime, keep track of the leaking and just take it from there. just curious are you going to spay or breed her? i believe the spaying contribute to the problem, but i am not a breeder and i do not want to go through heat cycles for sure.

i believe i got the advise here to let her go through her 1st heat cycle too. but 2 reasons i didn't do it is: 1. too much hassle to control a dog in heat, wouldn't be feasiable for me at all, heat last at leat 2-3 weeks. 2. the problem had gone a way for a good 5 months. so i thought we were out of the woods, so unfortunanly i will never know if the heat would of solved the problem maybe but maybe not. better luck to you. don't lose hope.

Thanks again. I don't have the intentions of spaying her right away. I owned a female shepherd in the past and did not spay her, so I am familiar with the heat cycle. The UTI test is scheduled and we will wait and see. Fingers crossed!

Had a golden retriever pup this way.It was incontenience and took sergery to correct. The vet can test the dog by feeding it a liquid dye and then ex-rays will show if the plumbing is were it is suppost to be.
Good Luck

Thanks all. Did the UTI test and the bacteria count was very low. The vet says it is either a very mild UTI or she is coming into her 1st heat, so once again, undetermined. She thankfully has not had an episode since my last posting. Fingers crossed!
