I don't know about a lawsuit but I do believe Flexi's are dangerous to use. I know of several cases of injury due to normal use.
How?
One of my dogs is an adopted Pug who had one of those with him when he came. It has a handle, into which the cord retracts. It has a mechanism that allows you to use it as a retracto-thing or a regular fixed lead.
Your hand goes in the handle.
I've never figured out how anyone was injured with one. Are there different kinds from the one my Pug has?
For a minute now, pretend you're stupid. Then pretend that your obnoxious retriever mix is lunging at a dog across the street. So, you grab the Flexi with your other hand because you can't retract it fast enough (remember- you're stupid) and wrap it around your hand/fingers to try to gather up the extra line ASAP. Fido the moron keeps yanking, and guess what...you now have fewer appendages to worry about getting caught up next time. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" /> At least this is what I've witnessed people do. Personally, I wouldn't trust one of those for a strong unruly dog, even though they say they're ok up to "x" number of pounds.
The "stupid" is directed at the woman who lost her finger, not at the poster Connie was replying to and quoting.
I will use them for some casual walks but they strike me as even more dangerous to my dog. Annie will invariably hop and get it wrapped on her leg(s)...if she bolts on a squirrel or something (another reason why flexis are not that great imo), that's a lot of rope burning her up and cutting her pretty bad. I've started to just use a flexi when she's in a harness and I can clip it to a ring over her shoulders. Much less tangle that way.
