Has anyone had expeience or problems with artificial insemination? I was wondering what the success rate was for the pregnancy taking? I would think close to 100% considering the vet is putting things where they belong. If the breed matters i am referring to GSDs.
for those interested , i have contacted several vets in my area and have gotten a PM from another member all saying the same thing. It is about a 95% success rate and it is very safe when you have problems trying to breed 2 dogs that do not want to breed. The particular vet i am going to does not put the male under. i am the owner of the male and this was one of my concerns.
I have done hundreds of AI's - and never heard of PUTTING THE MALE UNDER to do this. That is drop dead stupid?
I dont know the percent of sucess but when its done correctly and if the females if healthy, and the time is right the sucess os good. I dont know about this 95% claim - sounds high to me.
I did a training DVD on this last year and we are about to add AI kits to our web site.
I dont know where you heard this bit about putting a male to sleep but I would be very cautious of dealing with anyone that says this.
None of the vets that do AI in my area put the male under. The person that suggested we try AI advised to check on it.
i had to research the process before i agreed to the procedure.
I have never seen a dog put under for "collection". I have seen a few dogs that really LOVED coming to the vet, though. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />
