No fair using cattle dogs as an example in this case. Mine never gave two poops about anything. I think if the car would of hit her......maybe.
I think that this is definately something to think about. I guess you could put it under, uhhhhh whats the term where the dog doesn't come back after something wierd happens? Soft? I shouldn't be doing this as tired as I am. So I quit.
OK sorry to sidetrack this thread a little bit -- but are ACD's suitable for protection work? I love them lil guys, they're super cool lookin dogs, just wondering if they can do anything besides ignore loud noises and herd?

LOL, Yes, I like the fact that he is not sound sensitive BUT when you are neurotic like me and have a breed that is prone to deafness, you begin to worry that it is not a stable temperament but that he can't hear. Plus when this pup was young, he was so GOOD. Well, now he is a little *&^( and I wish he would go back to that well behaved stage
Mike - Yes, they can be good in biting sports/jobs. They have (and are) being used in some police forces as K9s. With that said, it is harder to find a good working ACD versus a more traditional breed like GSDs and Mals.
I have been in this breed for quite a while and there is only a couple "registered" lines that I would even look at - and even with those lines it is a crapshoot. That is why I wanted this pup so bad. Parents were registered but that is it. However, sire is a full brother to the dog I do Schutzhund with and the dam was from a line that not only had the first SchH titled ACD in the US (I think he got a II) but also is known to be sharper. A perfect cross for what I was looking for.
ACDs tend to develop slower but this guy looks to have what I want. He is extremely physical and confident plus he is on the big side for an ACD (20 inches tall and 50+ pounds at 7.5 months) which is what I wanted. I am going to try to get some pics this weekend if the snow melts.
His uncle (the one's whose pictures are in the below link) and I are hopefully heading to Denver in May to get his SchH I.
Sorry for the off topic response
