Does anyone have an opinion on Tapioca in dog food? The new grain free and potato free kibble by Natures Variety uses Tapioca to bind the ingredients together. That is the starch in the diet. Any concrete information for or against it's use?

Well, it's not a canine allergen, it's not a grain (it's a root)........in other words, it's free of any stigma that I know of so far. That said, it's not something dogs would have evolved with in their diets.
Yes, thanks. I just read some things about it having cyanide in it if it's not cooked properly. I know pPotato skins is toxic as well but I haven't done much research on Tapioca in a dogs diet so wanted everyone's input.

I think maybe you're thinking of green potato skins and sprouted potatoes, and the potato plant itself, but not the normal skin (to the best of my knowledge).
Yes, it's when light is exposed to the potato, even artificial light which causes glucoalkaloids. As little as 12 hours in light can cause the poisonous substance. I am not so sure dog food companies are that careful which is why I asked about Tapioca instead of potato in food. I thought it might be safer, or maybe I'm just being a bit too concerned LOL.
