I need some advice on something.. When I first began drive building work and "into my arms", my pup was very calm and hard gripping. I've noticed recently that he still has a calm grip when he's holding something, and won't chew while running. But, whenever, I call him into my arms he gets chewy.
1. Handler issue.. I found out that my brother was doing drive work with him while I was at work.. He used to snatch the tug "too often" I presume..
2. He's also began teething, but his drive is still crazy and will bite like hell. (I'm just letting him have the tug) after he bites. (I don't dare jerk it out of his mouth).
What I'm doing now is just calling him into my arms even when he doesn't have a tug/ball and calmly pet him..
He seems relaxed when in my arms.. I'm trying (while in my arms) to give him a tug to hold on to.. HE CHEWS..
Any ideas.. or recommendation is appreciated...
PS. My brother is supposed to be walking my pup and not building drive.. I MADE THAT CLEAR..
You are doing the right thing - have the dog come into your arms with nothing - if he stand calmly doing that then he wont doi it when he has a prey item.
When you start to do drive work again - bring hin into you arms then let him riun again without taking it away. DO WAY WAY ore of this - teaching the OUT is EASY WEASY EASY - getting a dog to trust you and have a good bond is hard.
I'm keeping the Aus to the minimum.. Maybe once every 4/5 days.. And then.. I'm using another tug to swap.. No compulsion whatsoever.. So I'll just keep on doing what I'm doing and hope it gets better..

good point.. I do have Ed's vids.. My problem was different, however, I rarely/barely give him an OUT.. I'm sure this won't be too difficult to fix..
i agree with ed. i think your brother messed your dog up. all the pulling and outing dog your dog nervous. i also agree that your are on the right path and it shouldnt be hard to fix
Ok here's the update on my pup.
He's NOT chewing in the arms ANYMORE
He hasn't finished teething, but what I'm doing is; teasing him with the ball /tug and when he wins.. he gets to keep it..
I don't snatch it away.. He's almost ready for Focus work !!
