At what age or point in a dogs protection training is it OK for me to be strict with my dog and stop her from jumping up on people? I know that I don't want to discourage her from jumping up on people too early as I want her to have no hesitation with blasting into people in her protection training, however, my wife is pregnant and my dog's jumping is going to get dangerous for my wife pretty soon.
I don't let my dogs jump on me or anyone else in my family, I don't care how old they are.
If you live with your dog as a house dog you will need to teach the dog some manners, no matter what someone may think it will do to the dog's working potential. . .which is just about nothing if done right.
Hi Michael, If this dog is going to be around your pregnant wife, and then children, teach the dog not to jump on people from the start. It is easier to teach them TO jump on people later, when appropriate. Your dog should be able to discriminate between jumping on your family in enthusiastic play, and a helper with prey item on command.
Whoever will only draw conclusions from the eminence of his own particular point of view, will obtain a distorted picture.-v. Stephanitz
