Cindy, it looks like your first impression was right. I found some fleas on Yogi. I've also had him off of the kelp/alfalfa but it didn't help. What does anyone recommend for fleas (keeping in mind how prolific they are in subtropical climates)? Thanks.

Walt truy everything first like changing diet, vitamins etc. Here in Australia Some dogs and horses develope a tipe of skin rash from fleas. It is quite unique as even if you get rid of the fleas the dogs and horses ceep on skraching. Vets charge like a bull for a treatment that rearly works.
But an old bush man told me once a bush remidy.
He got some old burned disell sump oil and rubed it on his sores and the itch went away. I have tried it for number of years with my horses and an ocational problem dog and it works. Aperently its the oil plus the detergents in it that kill any mites on the skin.
But like I said truy the diet first and then all the other sugestions if nothing helps feel free to truy this. If you would like to know more just say so and I will explain in more detail.
One word of warning its messy.
I love strong nerve dominant character dogs. The rest are not my cup of tee.
Hello Walt, I'm even further south than Tangi, as tropical as you can get. I supplement my dogs' food with garlic and give them the monthly application of 'Frontline Plus' (this not only kills ticks and fleas, but the flea eggs). My dogs have been tick and flea free.
I prefer natural methods towards health (garlic) but there are instances where you have to choose the lesser of two evils. The majority of parasites here carry diseases deadly to dogs.
Due to the negligance of not applying Frontline, a working dog I know of has contracted Canine Ehrlichiosis, transmitted by the brown dog tick. It is probably in the chronic stage now and the dog is doomed to an uncertain death.
Once your pets have experienced parasites, go on an extermination binge, those eggs linger about for a while.
I also use advantage and it works great. I get mine off of ebay for about half the price I pay at the vets. The seller has a dutch auction so you don't have to worry about being outbid.
Here's the latest:
Sprayed Yogi w/ Frontline monday. I bought a store brand Omega when I ran out of the stuff I bought from Ed. It doesn't have the vitamin E like Ed's stuff and I was wondering if the quality might also be lesser. Any ideas on that? I checked the ingredients and the only suspect things are gelatin (probably normal) and glycerin (any problems with this?). No sugar though, which is what I was looking for. Gotta order some things from Ed today anyway so I think I'll try another bottle of his Omega and see if it helps.

Forgot to mention that I've been using the store brand Omega for a while, I didn't just get it. I don't remember if it was when the problems started but it could have been.
