I wondered if anyone would know what might cause this. The spot is located on my dog's belly right at the sternum. It used to be about the size of a nickle, but has recently grown to a bit larger than my thumb. It's not red or inflamed and she does not lick it, scratch it, or bother it in any way - to her it's like it's not even there. It's just a spot on her belly with no hair (it's not her belly-button).
Any thoughts on this would be most appreciated!
Thanks!

Is the spot kind of like little rings if you look really close and the skin on the flaky side?If yes I would wonder if it is Ringworm. It would be wise to take her to the Vet to know for sure as if it is Ringworm it is contagious to humans and other animals and possibly will spread to other places on her.Ringworm is easily cleared up with a topical creme and a couple of good anti-fungal washes.Keep the area clean with something like Betadine,we use this often at the Dairy Farm.Just a thought.I quess it is possible from laying on hard surfaces but these bare spots usually show up on elbows and hocks.Hope this helps!
I know it is not ringworm. I have worked with horses for years and have seen this a few times so I do know what it looks like. My dog has had this spot for quite a while now, and I have touched and rubbed it and both my dogs play together and neither my other dog, nor myself have had any problems so I know it's not contagious! The area on my dog is smooth and soft. There is no dryness or flakiness at all. There is just no hair there.
I have wondered if it was from her laying on our carpet. That is what I had originally thought it was. It may be that, but I started to wonder because it all of a sudden grew a bit in size. She has a small callous on both elbows from the carpet, but the belly spot is soft. Would that just be because of the area?
Thanks again for the input!

I had also thought about this and I will have my vet do a scraping when I have her physical done in a couple of weeks.
But this spot has been there for about the past year and it is the ONLY bald spot on her. I had not taken her to the vet for this before now because I really thought the spot was from rubbing on our carpet and she was not irritated by it whatsoever. I started to wonder because it got a bit bigger suddenly just as of last week. Would Demodex really behave like this?
Will let you know what the vet says when I take her. Any other ideas are most welcome!
