My dog's K-9 teeth look chipped. First it was only one and now it is three. Two K-9 teeth on on the bottom and one on the top. He has lost the sharpness of the edge. Just a little though. 1. Is there anything in his diet that may be affecting his tooth?
2. Do you think I am feeding too much Calcium? Or is there something else?
- I do and have fed him raw eggshells. Perhaps I over did this along with the RMBs..
- I have not caught him chewing on anything bad. Perhaps he chews on his crate. I just found a remedy for it though. Then the only thing he loves is the "Everlasting treat ball and the rubber" But I know it would not harm the teeth. If anything, I think it helps in cleaning them. Also, it is rubber. It couldn't hurt. Correct?
When my dog was a pup, the first year or so of his life, he LOVED playing with a particular blue basketball. (As for the sport, he really sucks at offense, but playing defense he is actually quite good
He played with the ball a lot and refused other toys. I didn't think much of it until I noticed his teeth were wearing, the canines and front teeth.
The vet believed the ball was the cause due to the rubber. I questioned that because a lot of dog toys are made of rubber, but I did think perhaps the texture and/or grade of rubber (?) Does the toy you talked about have a texture to it? How often does your dog have the toy?
I took the ball away and the teeth stopped showing wear.
I wonder if there is a genetic predisposition to weaker teeth?
i would think there's a genetic link to good teeth/bad teeth--just look at people! i don't have any ideas as far as chipped teeth, but i have a feeling i WILL have--my pup carries rocks around.
other than giving him the old "aachh", does anyone have suggestions to stop him? i've seen the teeth of rock-chewers and my oldest dog, who'll go thru ANYTHING to get a varmint, has terribly broken teeth.
dont mean to hijack the thread, but it's related at least
