I am late on this as I just got back to town. If you do a search on this it has been gone over several times. I believe I asked the same ?. My boys ears were very late to stand and I was always saying I have a soft eared dog with on dropped testicle and bad teeth, puppy teeth were also late to come out last one after 6 months. Anyway his ears went up good at around 5 months his testicle dropped and his teeth are fine. He is a great dog for me. Hang in there and all should be fine.
My pups (4+ months old) ears were both erect and a-framed for the past two or three weeks and last night I cleaned out some built up dirt from the ears with a alcohol/vinegar solution and now his right ear is flopping again. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif" alt="" />
OK, that quote was from several weeks ago. After his right ear flopped when I cleaned it out it rested down for like 5 days. I began taking him to the beach and now the right ear is up 100% of the time (yes, that's awesome & good news) but now his LEFT ear has begun to flop almost 100% of the time now. Nobody has touched either one of his ears as far as I know. He still hasn't dropped his puppy teeth yet either, but he is 5 months old already. Is it normal for ears to go up & down several times? I freak out every time one of his ears goes down for this long.
He is a big dog already with a large head and I would think his ears should both be up all the time by now. Has anybody else's pups done this at this age? Thanks!
My mal has relatively large ears for his head. He's 5 1/2 months old now, both of his ears are erect. But I notice that sometimes one of them would flop, and once he runs or gets alerted they stand. Is that what your noticing?

that is how the right ear was but its up 100% of the time. Now his left ear is down and it stays down even during very excited ball play. I am taking him back to the beach in the morning to see if the saltwater helps any. He dropped some of his first puppy teeth this weekend. I would have never noticed but he bit my arm and I could swear they felt like adult teeth so I took a look and sure enough about 4 or 5 puppy teeth dropped already.
GSD ears are very delicate. i recommend to try not to touch them at all. Most of all dont allow people to pet by the ears if you allow people to pet you dog. i found flicking the ears works a little but tapping is the last straw you should take.

I dont know about tapping and flicking. If my dogs ear has been damaged, I think he did it himself when he scratches behind it. That looks way more damaging than any other type of contact. His head is still not full grown and his ears are still these very huge dumbo looking things so I am thinking now it will straighten out as he matures a bit more.
