What should I put in the bottom of my crate? I can't believe lying on that metal floor all day is healthy. Living in GA I need something taht will stay pretty cool. Deanna and Cindy might not believe this after the Flinks seminar but it does actually get hot here, real hot. Thanks.

Somewhere on Ed's site(maybe equipment section) there is a company that he gets cow mats from. You can cut them to size and place them on the floor of the crate. This also cuts down on the noise the dog makes when he moves around in the crate. I will try and find it and post it.
I went out and got some $16.99 kinda foam rubber shop mats and cut to size.. perfect. Comfortable, warm and cool. Better on the ole joints I thought. I got the mats at Cosco.

Hey Walt, I know it gets hot in Hotlanta in the summer. I lived in Western NC for a long time. Not a fan of the heat myself!
The water-type cool mats work, but I am nto crazy about them. I stole my way to keep dogs cool in the summer from one of Richard's posts. VERY CHEAP TOO!
Fill a 2 liter bottle with water. Chuck it in the freezer overnight. Toss one or two in the crate under a towel and happy puppies! Then, as they have thawed (which takes a REALLY LONG TIME) you have an extra source of water. (provided the dog doesn't chew them, and if he does he gets cooled then too) (ask me what happens when you leave a 11 week old pup in the backseat with a 12 pack of diet pepsi cans)
Also you can locate the cattle type trailer mat - usually at any large farm store. The ones I have found are about 5/8's of an inch thick. They come in 4x8 sheets like plywood and be cut with a utility knife. Also I have used old thrown wrestling mats from the local school.
