I think it is a great alternative for not only LE but for civilians as well because it is non-lethal and the dog pretty much leaves the scene in a hurry and goes back to his home. Offline	We had an incident where one of our officers tased a loose dog that was terrorizing a neighborhood for a two week period….the dog died. Hell of a shot…. From inside the car with both the car and dog in motion. Same officer two weeks later had a deer that ran into an OfficeMax store. He thought that he could tase the deer and grab his leg quick while he was being shocked and drag him out…… Deer went down, officer grabs the deer’s leg, battery in the taser dies and the deer kicks the officer in the shoulder putting him out on comp for 4 weeks. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" /> http://www.NAPWDA.com

Deer are incredibly high strung animals and too much stress puts them into shock and kills them pretty quick. They are, incidently, the number one exotic animal that injures people who keep them as "pets" or as livestock (even over people who keep tigers, mountain lions, etc). I was up at the Omaha Zoo job shadowing the vet there and they had a tufted deer (looks kinda like a cross between a pig and a goat) escape into the neighborhood around the zoo and it died soon after capture because of shock. It is a Rottie (mix I think) I did not see the small child holding the dog, I will have to watch it closer later today. I think it is a good alternative to anyone having to shoot a dog that is being aggressive, however, if the taser does not work then by all means use lethal force.
