"Virginia Beach Dog Park infected with parvovirus
The Virginia Beach Parks and Recreation staff is sanitizing the Red Wing Dog Park .
The department was alerted a puppy that was at the park Friday had tested positive for canine parvovirus, or more commonly known as parvo. Parvo is a highly infectious disease among dogs.
The park was immediately closed after the discovery, and crews began administering a sanitizing bleach treatment daily.
The dog park will reopen May 15.
Any dog owner's that took their dog to the park Friday is asked to be on the lookout for symptoms in their dogs.
On a separate note, the K9 Karnival on Saturday will be held as scheduled in an unaffected area of Red Wing Park."
