A friend of mine is seriously thinking about getting a dog as a pet and as a serious home protection dog. They were not planning on working the dog but would be spending a lot of time training & interacting with the dog just like it was their child.
ANyways I am trying to make sure they dont make the same stupid ignorant mistake I made! I told them they need to find a very good experieced breeder who would have a working dog with a off switch and would be easy to handle for both him and his wife.
I was thinking more on the lines of german show lines ???
I am in the process of convincing them NOT to look in the newspaper, & or let themselves be decieved by adds in the ckc magazine etc..
I have mentioned rescue but they dont seem to be interested stating that they want a dog they will KNOW can be reliable as real house protection.
The thing is they want a dog that would be serious at protection but a dog they can baby and treat like a "child" because they do not have any and dont plan on getting any. I am not sure if such a thing is possible and I told them that letting one of these dogs free range the house sleep on your bed is usually not a good idea. (but what do I know
ANyone know of any good breeders in this country that may be worth mentioning?
Hello Steve!
Just my opinion, if your friends want a serious protection dog, I couldnt imagine advising them to go any way other than a working line. A working line dog can be babied just as easily as a show line.
oh sorry I posted this in the wrong section I should of posted this in "people looking to get a working dog" ANy way a mod can move it over perhaps?
PS I would just like to mention the only pet they have is a HUGE lop eared rabbit called "barnie" that is litter trained and allowed "free range" In their house. I told them im sure if they found a really good good breeder they could match them up with a dog that would be able to live with such a delicate creature but I am still unsure if this is possible?
send me a personal message and I will suggest a breeder in canada.....just my personal opinion....for what thats worth.
