Mike, just an FYI...spiral fractures are very common in human pediatrics due to the softness of the bone. Since animal and human medicine often overlap, her diagnosis is certainly plausible. I'm really glad you were persistant and kept on investigating until the problem was determined!
I was told that if you have a high drive dog, it is better to crate them at training to reduce the risk of them hurting themselves and/or tearing apart anything w/in proximity to themselves as they may build up frustration (hearing training going on, etc.).... I'm not sure how true this is, but it certainly sounds like logical advice.
Best wishes on a speedy recovery. Oh, and COOL CAST!!!

...........She immediately started putting her lil demon teeth on her cast so she has to wear the head cone thing, she's not happy, but she's finally stopped whining and settled down to sleep. Here's a photo of her in her new gear: ......
http://static.flickr.com/52/148909773_28d1cc8848.jpg .......
If she does stuff like bite your fingers off in hatred of the cone collar, or getting suctioned onto walls with it (yes, I had a dog do that in his extreme distaste for the cone; he stood in front of the wall or door and hyperventilated about it, sticking the cone onto the flat surface).....then I found that the newer soft ones are wonderful.
That cast is so cool! Two weeks, no effect on growth.... man, this turned out best possible case, I think. Whew!

Mike, I'm glad to hear that your pup will recover completely.
One quick piece of advice is that regardless of what your friend says about a good tie-out...NEVER, NEVER, NEVER leave a young dog unattended, specially at a training field.
Obviously the dog's safety is the most important issue, but there are at least two others: 1) you need to praise your dog consistently for desired behaviors, so your dog does not "self-train", and 2) your dog could be stolen.
If you're going to crate your dog, be aware that if you leave the crate door pointing to where the training is taking place, your pup could easily get a tooth caught in the crate door and pull it out or break it. Leave the crate door against something solid, and the rear of the crate if possible pointing to where the action is.

Thanks Andres, that's excellent advice, I will follow it!
The unfortunate thing is that I was standing 4ft away from my pup when this happened, she is always within my sight, I get very paranoid when I don't know where my dogs are haha, the only time she isn't in my sight is when she is in my truck with the AC on and the door locked. The training is usually a small group, that particular night it was 3 police officers, a close friend, and the trainer, none of us saw it coming But in future she will be crated when watching, and as you suggested, with the crate facing backwards!

All this because I stayed at training a little longer than I had planned to take some additional suit bites from some local police dogs, oh well.
Chop busting time, Mike...
If you were taking suit bites from some local police dogs 4 ft away from your pup, you might want to reconsider that too.

Sorry let me explain -- I stayed longer to take some bites from the police dogs, then got OUT of the suit, stood by my pup while another decoy worked the dogs, and while I was out of the suit standing 4ft away from my pup the accident happened. I was not taking bites 4ft away from my pup LOL.
