I would appreciate those of you who are feeding raw to look this 13 page research over. I have been following the diet / excerise / and vitamin supplement very regular. The medicine they mentioned later in the article (can't afford)the only med the dog is on right now is predizone, 1/2 a 10 mg tab every other day. Within the 4 weeks I have started this - I have seen a very noticeable upbeat difference in the activity of my dog.
Would or could the raw diet help a dog out with this medical problem. I have always fed dry.
Looking for some thoughts.
Thanks
Mark Maybe you can try aminocaprioic acid (Amicar Rx) and Vitamin E as is prescribed by Dr. Clemmons of Florida State University.
His recommendation: Aminocaprioic acid, 500mg every 12 hours
and
Vitamin E - 2000 IU daily.
Hope it helps. One last thought is swimming for her. It could be a lower stress activity and help retain some muscle. As always check with your vet and sorry to hear about your dog.

This maybe the same doctor you are talking about Mark but I couldn't get the link to work that you posted on another posting.

I put down my patrol dog a number of years ago when he couldn't take care of his own bodily functions due to this process. It was a sad day. His onset was unusually rapid thank goodness.
Little that can be done and predisone really does very little to assist the dog.
Could a raw, natural diet help???? I don't know that anyone can give you a definitive answer to that question. I'm sure some of the BARF gurus will tell you that all things are fixable by the BARF program, but I would question such info. I am a big fan of feeding raw natural diets to my dogs. I can list a lot of reasons for doing so, endurance, muscle tone, appearance, etc. But, DM is a destruction of the myelin sheath around the nerves. I can't say the raw food will do anything at all.
Thanks for your replies. Kevin, what you stated is the same as the Dr stated.would end up taking place. I was just hoping to sustain a little longer of quality time.
Chin up Addison and honor Sara with a good job on that puppy of yours.
If want to try the Vitamin E and aminocaprioic acid I might be able to get it for you cheaper then your vet sells/gets it trough some of the people and friends I work with on my puppy research. We have have a collective buying beween the vets and breeders and sometimes we can get good deals. I am not certain if this is the case but would be willing to look it up for you and get it for you at cost. Just let me know and you will need a Vet. note too for legal reasons.

If your dog has a problem I suggest contacting wholesalers who might beable to get you some good prices. I don't know about Canada or their laws nor am I willing to find out the hard way.
I do wish you luck though and sorry once again.
Mark, I will have an answer for you tomorrow and will send you off an email.
