I'm just curious, does anyone know if healthy adult toy breed dogs can walk 1 hour? Someone told me that because they are small they cannot walk as larger dog.
Some of the toy breeds have structural traits that would make it impossible to walk for long distances, and not so much the walking part, but especially the ability to cool themselves. Pomeranians have a tiny muzzle and can not pant efficiently enough to be able to take long walks in summer for example. Other toy breeds (like a min-pin) can give a big dog a run for their money.
Body condition will play a factor, as well as how brisk a walk we are talking about. Most toy dogs need to trot to keep up with the average strided human at a walk. I need to run or ride a bike to keep my big dogs in a trot for an hour.
My whife got a Papillion 24 cm off energy. Provided you give it enough water to drink she can outrun lots off larger dogs. I take her with me hiking sometimes. 20K trips without a problem and still playfull as ever
