I took my 7 year-old male today to the vet for x-rays. He has not been wanting to jump into the SUV nor do much jumping in agility.
His hips are fine but he has arthritis of the spine. The vet gave him a new drug called Zubrin. I just wanted to know if anyone else had used this & how effective it was with their dog.
Also the vet suggested I take him to a chiropractor. The only experience I ever had with this kind of doctor was with myself, & frankly, I was not impressed.
Has anyone used a chiropractor & been satisified with the results?
I don't know anything about the new drug but I had great success with a chiropractor and actupunturist with my dog. The combination of both helps out the best. After I would have my dogs adjusted they would feel so good. They would jump around playing and acting goofy. They felt really good after the appointment...
I didn't see any improvement from the chiropractor (but there are quacks all over, I'm sure there are excellent ones also), and both times when I tried acupunture, the vet said the dogs would love this, it would relax them and they will probably fall asleep. NOT! They hated it, tight as a rubber band the whole time, it wasn't for us. Gonna have to ask about that Zubrin tho, that's a new one on me.
My first chiropractor ended up hurting me. I was sore for a week and had no improvement. The second chiropractor I saw was great, I felt great after seeing him. The dog will let you know if it's working, good luck.
Also try adding the supplement glucosamine to his diet as well as the herb Yucca, which is an anti-inflammatory. They may help.
I went to one chiro for 6 years with limited results. After a further injury, he was absolutely not helping me. I went to another on advice. The second chiro literally saved my life. So it does depend who you go to.
Tried accupuncture for the first time last week for a tennis elbow. The results have been amazing! So, from experience, I would recommend both. Both my chiro and accupuncturist are willing to work on my dogs if need be and are studied up on animal anatomy, very lucky indeed.
If you do a web search for animal specific practioners, you may find some in your area.
Well, the big boy has an appointment with the chiropractor on Monday so we will see. There are people around this area that swear by this guy. There are a couple a little closer to home but no one has much to say about them so we will go the distance & see what happens.
