i just read the other day that the gsd teeth has no cement on the layer of enamel on their teeth. I also have read that a tennis ball contains enamel in its coat. Can this conflict bring any harm to the dogs teeth?
Also, I have been supplementing my dogs with calcium for 14mo. I have now stopped. Should i continue supplementing it or not?
Tennis balls have chemicals in the glue that eats the enamel of a dog's teeth. I VERY rarely play with a tennis ball with my dogs anymore for this reason.
If your dog is eating a balanced diet (either homemade or commercial) you can cause problems by oversupplementing with calcium. I know a lot of breeders who supplement puppies and pregnant/lactation dogs with calcium and I don't agree with it.
Here is an article written about joint problems associated with (among many things) over supplementation with calcium.
