My little girl is now due in 9 days. She was eating well until a few days ago. Now, she's not too interested in eating. She's eating less now than she was last weekend. Any suggestions? I'm thinking maybe IAMs puppy kibble is not real delicious. I give her 1/2 cup three times a day and mix it with 1/3 can dog food at dinner time. She was eating all of it, now she's only making a dent in the meal with the canned dog food. She seems okay otherwise. Sleeping more and has become an absolute velcro dog. Runs up and down the stairs. Anybody have any suggestions to help her eat better? I've tried scrambled eggs, cottage cheese, and I'm moving on to hot dogs, bacon, hamburger; I tell ya, when little dogs don't eat, I get upset. I took her to the vet for the x-ray, 5-6 pups (can 3 heads be superimposed?), he didn't seem to think there was a problem with her eating less.

It is normal for them to eat less in the last portion of the pregnancy. All you can do is offer food more often. Try adding some broth to the food.
I remember Ed saying that this was important near term and also especially while lactating. I don't have breeding experience, but here's a link: http://www.leerburg.com/feedingqa.htm#preg
And I have read exactly what Deanna said: that small frequent meals are often more readily accepted near term.
Thanks! As it turns out, dogs really do like bacon. My best luck has been to boil ground beef in water and mix it and the broth with the kibble. One more week.
All of mine seem to slow down on food at the end. I don't think the heat has helped but I try to give all the dogs things they REALLY like to eat when they are close to giving birth or in the heat. I have fed alot of liver and round steak this week with the heat. I try to feed them in their boxes inside and then make sure they have plenty of water. My female had pups on Sunday and she was not really eating well the last two days and she has no excuse since she is my house dog and is in A/C all day. I fed her her what she likes best in small feedings 3 to 4 times a day. That seems to work, I cut the supliments she dosn't like and made sure I spend plenty of time with her in the welping box petting and fussing over her and didn't disrupt her routine. I took her for a short walk today to the drug store. I belive that all that helps her to be a more confident and healthy mom. Spend time with your female at the end particularly if they have a strong bond with you and I even will hand feed if it helps. I am at a point with my brood bitch that she dosn't even get up when I take a pup to weigh it or anything.
