Will might tell us we've hijacked this one at any second now <:-O
I put quotes around the term "attack trained" to use that layman's phrase as short-hand, because Carolyn had some VERY basic questions about whether a PPD would defend its owner by biting an assailant without being commanded to do so -- I probably should have answered her question in a PM rather than on this thread, LOL
Yes, an "attack trained" dog will defend its owner against an assault without being commanded to so -- Even my Borzoi (who's NOT a guardian breed & has NO protection training will do that much, as most K9 pets would, but without the effectiveness or persistence of a PPD)...
I don't know about that statement. One of my males would probably run away if an assualt against me took place, he just doesn't have it genetically, but besides that he's a great dog. I think "most k9 pets" would run. Don't wait for your borzoi to hang around in a bad situation ,
AL
As a matter of fact, Al, we were in the car & stopped at a red light in downtown Berkeley when a bum reached into the open passenger window & grabbed my purse -- My male Borzoi was riding in the backseat & silently struck the guy like lightening, ripped open the side of his face & sent him packing, without my purse <:-O
Do I harbor any illusions that he would engage a Schutzhund decoy, or some hardcore criminal determined to kill the dog? No of course not, but even my childhood Dachshunds would protect me from neighborhood bullies, as I still believe most K9 pets would...
Yes, there's a HUGE difference between what can be expected from a PPD and how far "the family dog" will generally go in one's defense, obviously <:-)
