Sorry for no link but this is on the CNN homepage under free video. A Petco trainer solicited this woman for an in home training session to help her with a rambunctious GSD pup. The trainer had the owner muzzel the dog and hold its front paws while the trainer barked into the pups ears and poked it in the neck and stomach. The dog urinated and deficated on itself, owner then rushed the dog to the vet where it died.
Wach the video.

There is way more to the story. The owner admitted the dog was unsocialized and spent most of it`s life chained to a door inside the house. They were going to euthanize the dog. The whole story sounds like BS and is one sided (told by the loving owner of the chained dog) then sensationalized by the media.
MAybe they schould poke the "trainer" till she pees and poops on hrself.. I still can not believe somebody gave that "loving Mommy' that chains dogs another unfortunate puppy. That is sad.
I didn't have much time this morning to comment. I really feel that Petco is responsible for the actions of their trainer. If they gave adequate instruction to their trainers they would never have tried something as stupid as a doggy exorcism. I mean seriously what kind of idiot thinks they can curb aggression in a dog by poking it. If Petco gave their trainers the tools and knowledge to properly train all dogs and not just the easy ones this would not have happened, minimally Petco should have a referral program in all their stores with names of trainers experiences in working with dominant and aggressive dogs so that when they get a dog in class that cannot be handled with only clicker/ positive training methods they can refer to someone who can actually help the owner. Not do some half baked voodoo to remove the dog’s bad endorphins... whatever that means.

Sorry, but I disagree, or maybe it's the same as the great chicken/egg debate. I lay the blame at the feet of the owners. How could they believe this sort of "training" would benefit their dog? How could they allow it to go on once they saw what the "trainer" was doing? They do not deserve to own a dog, & I am scared for the new one they have adopted, especially since they have accepted no personal responsibility for having got the dog to the point of needing this "trainer" & for not calling it off once they saw what was happening. Idiots all of them.
is NO one responsible for their OWN actions/decisions these days? excuse me, but i personally believe that as a person who "owns" animals, it's my responsibility to not only make sure the animals are taken care of physically, but also mentally. if that means spending some time/money on researching just what that means--well, it's my responsibility as the person who has life/death decisions over another being's existence.
this is a HUGE responsibility in my eyes; maybe not in other's...
