Sorry for being vague but I'm trying to recall the name of the thread and/or the name of the poster who was involved in a thread about overcoming fear in general. It was about 3 months ago, maybe and the original poster needed help in getting his dog to overcome something (don't remember and it's not important). Someone answering the thread, it was a woman, described a way to introduce the dog to the thing it feared by way of...here's where I'm probably going to loose you...walking the dog in some sort of indirect way around, toward the object. She used words that were sort of technical like the way to walk the dog in the beginning was to use say a bell shaped introduction walk, then as the dog became used to that you did some other type of walk.
I'm sorry for the outrageous lack of detail but does anyone know just what the heck I'm talking about <img src="http://www.leerburg.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif" alt="" /> ??
This little setup works for dogs that are too excited, aggressive or fearful. The goal is a dog that acknowledges and ignores a stimulus (water, other dogs, strangers, etc)
Now the threshold has moved much closer. The dog on the fear threshold/one step back. Look at her posture. See how she is acknowledging the object, and is self-controlled. The dog investigated the fire truck for a moment then turned to me for direction and we continued our walk. http://img335.imageshack.us/img335/9898/colorbreeandfiretruckwheelph0.jpg

I think Anne Vaini was on the thread, so maybe looking at her posts will dig it up. I remember it, but didn't find it in a quick "search".
