If you're not sure she's pregnant, take her to a vet and get her x-rayed. If there's one pup in there, or dead puppies, she might not go into labor on her own. The puppies stimulate contractions, so if the pup is dead, or so big it's stuck in there, she will need a c-section. And of course if there are no puppies in there, then you can relax. But don't guess - get an x-ray done asap.
I took her to the vet. She is in a false pg. My question for anyone is: do I try my luck again or just forget it and cut my loss? This is something I have never delt with.
No reason she can't be bred at her next or a later heat. You do want to watch her carefully until she is completely over it, though, because FP can increase the risk of developing pyometra. Barring that, there's no reason she can't have a litter at a later heat. Not sure what you mean by, " cut your loss"(?)
Don't be surprised to see her mother "phantom" puppies or adopt a toy and mother it. Some bitches carry it that far.
I think we are going to try again.
My expenses to get her to the male, and vet costs, is what I am talking about with, "cutting my loss". He is 5 hours away-one way. Gas being so high, it costs me a small fortune to get her there. This breeder had indicated once female have a false pg, they tend to do it again. Since I don't have any experience with this I wasn't sure what to do.
By no means am I an expert but, I have never had good success with breeding bitches that have FP. Have had experience with three, the one that finally did get pregnant after the 4th time she was bred was a horrible mother! Hopefully, you will have better luck than I did. Abnormal heat cycles and false pregnancies are not worth it to me. Bitches should be of very high quality all the way around if they are going to be used for breeding. This includes hormones. JMO.
Since you probably can't get a refund for the stud fee maybe give it one more try.
I am confused as to why this post is in Leerburg Puppies for sale... Am I reading this incorrectly? Or are you breeding leerburg pups?
