I have only had one dog that seemed interested in tv. She had a a particular interest in herding animals. Wildebeast, horses, sheep, anything in a herd she seemed fascinated by. Anything else, she couldn't have cared less.
Tucker's the same, heaven forbid i try to watch any sheep herding trials...those really get him going. But, he is part Border Collie, that may have something to do with it. But any animal catches his attention. I tried to watch the West Minster Dog show on tv a few weekends ago (at least I think thats what it was)and I had to put him in a down stay just so I could see the tv! He stayed but he would still be intently watching the tv....and whine every few minutes...but I don't mind that, what I do mind is all the little nose prints he leaves on the tv screen!
I didn't think dogs could see images on TV until my Mal/X would go right up and watch any animal on TV, not people, but all animals, meercats to horses, gators to antelopes. He growls, whines, barks, what a show!
Don't know what his mix is but looking at him he looks like a cross between a Mal and a whippet, and yes he is fast.
I thought it was the sound, so the sound was muted, no difference, he watches intently and has a definate reaction. It is entertaining when friends come over to turn on Animal Planet.
No other aspect of television programs affect him, but let an animal show on screen and it's quite funny. BTW, he only has one good eye, the other eye is blind, a factor when he was deposited in our yard. Maybe he is part sighthound.
The GSD doesn't give a hoot about anything with the TV.

I am trying to picture that Cross in my head...a Mal & a Whippet...and I just can't picture what your guy looks like!!! I keep picturing a Whippet with a tonne of fur or a Mal with hardly any at all
My GSDs all just have their ears perk up when they hear a dog or cat on tv but otherwise ignore it.
I used to have a Welsh Terrier many years ago who was a hoot to watch - he would watch tv shows with dogs on them intently. If a dog "ran off" the tv screen he would run around and behind the tv looking for it.
We had two dogs that watched the old Barbara Woodhouse show every week when she was on PBS years sgo. They could be anywhere within earshot and as soon as they heard her voice the dogs would come running, jump up on their allotted spots on the couch and foot stool and watch the entire show.
