Today my 3yr.old bichon/poodle mix sat in the backyard sunning himself, & when I picked him up to give him a bath, there were several pencil tip size insects w/wings roaming thru his underside near his loins.
They don't look like fleas, as these insects have wings..Could they be gnats? And if so, HELP what do I do to get rid of them..Hubby & I pulled as many as we could off him, but are still finding one or two when we roll him onto his back..The insects are fast moving & need to use my nails to get them off him. Some come off easily & others don't.
He sleeps in our bed & we sure don't want these "buggers" bugging us..I'm hoping for a quick answer b4 bedtime tonite. I've searched the net & really couldn't find a true picture of the insect. But I have seen herds of gnats in the air around here, as we live in the country..And I've also seen them hovering just above the grass & on the grass at times.
Hey Keith, Thanx for answering..I think you're right on that one. I called my dd who is a kienisologist..(sp?) & she recommended using skintastic. I sprayed it on my hands & rubbed it on his loins, & they did die & fall off. I'm sure going to my natural foods store in the am & getting some insect repellent..What an ordeal, but he was a doll thru it all..No trying to kick me away, or anything, just layed there during it all... <img src="http://www.leerburg.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" /> I did wash off the skintastic after all was said & done.
