Just an FYI post...for those of you who are unaware.
I learned something new yesterday. Through an unfortunate chain of events with a friend of mine, I have now acquired (hopefully temporary) an 8 month old, unneutered male aussie/lab mix. When I went to pick him up at her place, I was checking him over and discovered he had fleas running around his belly. EEEwwww--I sure do hate those things, like who doesn't?
Given the fact I have my dog and cat on frontline and have had no issues with fleas, I decided to call the vet to schedule a flea bath.
HOWEVER. I learned that instead of flea dips or baths now, the vet has a pill called Cap Star. This is a tablet you give to the dog/cat and will kill any flea, larvae, egg on the dog within 15 minutes! Plus, it was only $6.00.
Apparently, they don't sell it unless circumstances present, but they use it for animals who come into the clinic who have fleas.
I gave the pup the pill. I waited 30 minutes, just to be safe, and sure enough, those fleas were dropped dead on the bottom of the kennel. I then put the frontline on the pup. Flea free. How cool is that?
It is a very good product for new dogs coming in. You can find a 6 pack of it online pretty cheap. I know of some 6 packs for $14. Well worth the money

Wow,
I'm going to try this on payday. However, as I read up on CapStar, it says:
Quote:
The fleas on your pet are in the adult stage. An adult female flea, living on a pet, can lay up to 2,000 eggs in her lifetime. With CAPSTAR (nitenpyram), almost all adult fleas will be gone within 4 hours for dogs and 6 hours for cats. We recommend you follow up CAPSTAR flea control with a monthly flea control product such as PROGRAM, Frontline or Advantage. Then keep CAPSTAR on hand for the times when there is a visible flea re-infestation.

How CAPSTAR Flea Control Works
CAPSTAR starts working in just 30 minutes. A single dose of CAPSTAR should kill the adult fleas on your pet. If your pet gets reinfested with fleas, you can safely give another dose as often as once per day.
Clean
Some liquid-drop flea control products can leave pesticide residues that can rub off onto carpets, furniture and bedding. Not CAPSTAR. CAPSTAR flea treatment Tablets leave no pesticide residue in your home or on your pet.
Safe
CAPSTAR is remarkably safe. It is safe for puppies and kittens 4 weeks and older, weighing 2 pounds or greater, as well as for pregnant or nursing dogs.
Effective
In studies, over 90% of fleas are gone within 4 hours for dogs and 6 hours for cats after being treated with CAPSTAR Tablets.
How to Use
A single dose of Capstar (nitenpyram) should kill the adult fleas on your pet. If your pet gets reinfested with fleas, you can safely give another dose as often as once per day. To administer CAPSTAR tablets, place the pill directly in your pet's mouth, or hide it in food. If you choose to hide the tablet in food, watch closely to make sure your pet swallows the pill. If you are not sure that your pet swallowed the pill, it is safe to administer a second pill.
Precautions
This medication treats the pet only. To properly control fleas all pets must be treated and the outside and inside environments also need to be treated to prevent a reoccurrence. Indoor flea foggers Carpet sprays Outdoor treatments
