Thank you for your help with the cold weather question.
I have another "live out of the country" problem. btw I live in Bucharest Romania.
My little guy has had some "pimples" on his belly. Iwent on line and assumed they were just "puppy acne", but have been watching him very carefully. Today they turned into puss filled areas so I took him into the vet. He said...well through the interpreter who had the day off and was called on the vet's cell phone she told me it was an infection because he lies in his urine. I have noticed the same thing but I bathe him every other day becasue he likes to sleep on his pads and pee on the floor like I mentioned before. In the last few days since I have put him in a crate he has done much better. I put him outside (it is still warm here) every hour and clean his crate if he has had any accidents. I have been keeping him very clean and I clean up any urine as soon as I see it so he can't lie in it.
Okay so my question is... The vet presribed hydrogen peroxide betodine and a spray for cainine dermatitis (sp) if I read the romanain lable correctly. Could he have a urinary tract infection that is causing the legions and also the house training problem. I counted one time and I think I took him out 20 times in a 18 hour period and he still comes in and pees on the floor before I can get him back into his crate. Wouldn't it be protocol to try to take a urine specimin and prescribe antibiotics if an infection is visable? the legion (is that the right word?)was the size of a grape. In the past I just took my dogs to the vet and trusted their diagnosis now I have the feeling I have to diagnose him and research the treatment.
I have no idea aobut vets here but I visit an american doctor......if that answers anybody's question in a PC way.

I would make an appointment with the vet at a time when you can take a friend or neighbor with you who speaks both languages.
Yes, it sounds like he may have a UTI. Do you know how to get a clean catch specimen? You will want to take a spec to the vet asap.
I guess I would do this: Get a dual-language friend or neighbor to write down the words for "urinary tract infection -- test" and put that on the specimen with your name and address and contact info.
Then at least get that started. If he has a UTI you want that cleared up; it can be painful and it can lead to much worse complications. (The treatment, however, is not complicated.)
I would get rid of the pee pads completely, if you have not already.
If the vet was looking at the sores then he would not understand about the possible UTI..... I doubt that he was aware that there was *also* an issue with frequent urination and dribbling.
So you have two things going on, I would think, because while I'd guess that the lesions (pimples) could indeed be triggered by lying in urine (especially if there was any fecal matter involved), I'm not seeing a direct connection between the UTI and the pimples. But I am NOT a health professional, and I imagine that an untreated infection could also present with sores. It's just that it seems so likely that lying in damp ammonia triggered it externally.
So I'd get the clean catch and get that to the vet, and while waiting for that result I would do what he said for the sores as well as continuing to keep the crate very clean and dry and continuing to give him plenty of opportunity to relieve himself outside.

Here's the clean catch thing from another thread:
"This is pretty simple if you get a clean, dry disposable pie pan (lots of area) to stick under her after a little urine has been expelled. What you're aiming for is urine that comes out after the area around the urethra has been rinsed by the beginning of the flow. Then you can bend the edge for the transfer to a container with a cap."
Have the covered container with you so you don't try to come home carrying a flat pie pan of pee. <img src="http://www.leerburg.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" />
