I have a newbie question. I have a 2 year old Bouvier (hey, no flaming!) that is out of French Ring lines from France. he is a pretty independent dog. I have followed Ed's advice on corrections which I sought when I got the dog at 9 weeks. Drux is fairly obedient and has a ton of prey drive. I have had Bouvs for a long time and know they generally mature rather slowly. When is it to late to try and start Schutzhund work? I had started with a tug early and he really loves to tug. He is about 100lbs now and I can get him off the ground spinning around while he is on the tug.
There is a Schutzhund Judge and trainer that lives near me. He has been hard to get in touch with but I will keep trying.
Can we get a little love for the Bouvies! As an owner of the "other white meat " dogs, Rottie and Riesenschnauzer, I feel your pain. (Quiet John H. I can hear you!) Though you've missed the imprinting stage as long as you haven't done anything, how shall I put this gently....dumb, you should be ok.

I have had the male since 9 weeks. When is the imprinting stage? The other white meat LOL!! I was at a BouvCamp last month. I saw a couple of dogs that made the very experienced decoys do "rock paper scissors" to see who had to catch the dog! I have some outstanding photos that may make people think twice before dissing Bouviers. I need to find where to post them here.
I would not say it is never too late. But, the amount of work and discipline (on both of your parts) that is necessary later is much, much greater than starting with a pup. That being said; go out work with your dog and enjoy the time together.
